Ponta da Madrugada

It is the first viewpoint for visitors who reach Nordeste from the south side of the municipality. It is located in Lomba da Pedreira, before we enter the urban area of the town and next to the Estrada Regional. Considered as the best place to see the sunrise, as it is located in the far eastern end of the Island.
Throughout the year, there are incoming groupings of people from everywhere to enjoy the sunrise, complementing the visit with the tranquility that this local paradise offers, with extensive garden areas and stunning views of the sea and the Serra da Tronqueira.

Ponta do Sossego

Ponta do Sossego viewpoint, also located in Lomba da Pedreira is a little further from Ponta da Madrugada for those who enter the south side of the Island. It also offers a superb view of the coast, but its gardens steal the show in here. The diversity of flowers and flowerbeds, always being taken maintened very carefully, make this place the largest garden in the Nordeste municipality.
The view over the sea is also superb, from where you can see Fajã do Araújo and Lombo Gordo beach. Local families traditionally gather together for pleasant weekend outdoor picnics at Ponta do Sossego.

Pico do Bartolomeu

Pico do Bartolomeu Viewpoint is located on a dead-end road (accessible by a good road, although a little narrow) that goes up from the Cancela do Cinzeiro Forest Park to the telecommunications antennas located at the viewpoint.
The magnificent view over the east coast of São Miguel island, allowing stunning wide views over both the municipality of Nordeste and Povoação. Another particularity of this viewpoint is the surrounding presence of native vegetation of substantial altitude. It is already within the area of the Pico da Vara / Ribeira do Guilherme (Special Protected Area) coinciding with the Priolo distribution area.

Serra da Tronqueira

The Serra da Tronqueira Viewpoint is located on Estrada da Tronqueira, a secondary, dirt road that crosses the mountain range from Nordeste to the municipality of Povoação (near the entrance to Faial da Terra). The viewpoint offers an imposing view over the Serra da Tronqueira, Pico da Vara and Pico Verde.
This viewpoint is located in the heart of the Priolo's habitat, and around it we can find the most importante section of Laurisilva Forest on the island. At certain times of the year, Priolo can even be seen there.

Vista dos Barcos

On the way to Vila do Nordeste next to the Regional Road, follows another stop but this time to see the Arnel Lighthouse and the Fishing Port, with the lighthouse at the top of the steep descent to the port. If you choose to go down to the lighthouse and the port, pay close attention to the considerable inclination of the access path.
Along this path you will find several small and humble houses, that host few families that still fish in their spare time.

Ponta do Arnel

Ponta do Arnel viewpoint is right at the entrance to Vila do Nordeste, in the Nazaré area, along the Regional Road, allowing you to see the Arnel Lighthouse much closer, as well as part of the coast.
This is a meeting point for residents of the Nazaré area, especially in the late afternoons and sunny Sunday afternoons, perpetuating a long-standing tradition.
The viewpoint is equipped with parking (including bus) and toilets.

Borda da Ladeira

Located in Santo António de Nordestinho, this pleasant place allows you to overlook the highest elevation of the island of São Miguel, Pico da Vara, and the rocky tip of Bretanha- the south side of the island - making this point to resemble a crocodile leaning against the sea.
This viewpoint is located next to Estrada Regional, at one end of the parish, and it’s an inviting spot to take a quick rest along the journey.

Boca da Ribeira

After coming across Vila de Nordeste and going down to the Foz da Ribeira Bathing Area or the camping site of Parque de Campismo da Feira, you will find the Boca da Ribeira Viewpoint. it overlooks the stream mouth of Ribeira do Guilherme, lined with extensive vegetation and the rocky opening to the sea.

Vigia das Baleias

This location from Algarvia used to have a whale watch post. What we nowadays find here is a reproduction of an old lookout post and a homage niche in honor to Nossa Senhora de Fátima.
The viewpoint area is equipped with straw huts for picnics, barbecue grills, sanitary facilities and an outdoor physical maintenance circuit.
Enjoy superb views of the sea and the north coast at Vigia das Baleias viewpoint.

Despe-te-que-suas

The sea view and the Despe-te-que-suas slope (name attributed to the stream located there due to the slope’s steepness, which was quite demanding in past times when the locals had to walk across on foot or in animal-drawn wagons) is as beautiful as other parts of the county.
Next to the Despe-te-que-suas slope you will find a leisure area with a straw hut and barbecue place for picnic.

Pesqueiro

It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints of Nordeste from where you can see part of the northern coast of the island and Pico da Vara mountain. In addition, you can also see the pebble cliff of the parish where Pesqueiro stands out, which was a place for fishing and catching seafood, especially limpets, until recent times.
The Pesqueiro Viewpoint is equipped with straw huts, barbecue grills, toilets and wide garden areas.

Adro da Igreja da Achada

The tranquility of the place, the grandeur of the view and the sunset from the late summer afternoons are astonishingly alluring for us to go down to the churchyard. To visit this area, enter the parish of Achada and go down to the church.
Take the opportunity to visit the Achada’s Ethnographic Museum, which is nearby (see "Museums").

Salto da Farinha

Shortly after Ribeira dos Caldeirões Park, you will find another waterfall just before coming into the the urban area of Salga. It is about 40 meters tall and carries a greater water flow during the winter months.
Given the beauty of this place and so anyone can enjoy its ocean view, a viewpoint was built here which is also equipped with a picnic area and toilets.
A few meters further down, you will find the Pedra dos Estorninhos viewpoint, offering with wide views over the sea and a picnic area.
